Samsung Galaxy S24 vs Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus: the rumored key differences

Samsung is gearing up for an Unpacked launch event on January 17, where the unveiling of the much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S24 and Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus is imminent, catering to all your flagship phone cravings.
But the real dilemma lies in choosing between these two high-end marvels. What sets them apart? Is it merely a matter of size and cost, or has Samsung gone the extra mile to distinguish these devices in a more profound manner this time?
Answers to these burning questions will be unveiled at the January 17 event, where we eagerly anticipate getting our hands on both these smartphones.
Yet, thanks to the omnipresent internet and the often porous nature of manufacturing supply chains, we’ve already gained significant insights into what awaits us with the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus.

Exciting news from Samsung! The tech giant has officially announced its inaugural Galaxy Unpacked event for the year, set to take place on January 17.
At this highly anticipated gathering, we anticipate the grand unveiling of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. Expect availability to roll out towards the end of January or the early days of February.
According to whispers in the tech corridors, the pricing strategy for these phones is expected to align closely with last year’s models, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus.
As per speculations, the Galaxy S24 is projected to kick off at $799.99 / £849 / AU$1,349, while the Galaxy S24 Plus is likely to start at $999.99 / £1,049 / AU$1,649.
If you’re on a more budget-conscious path for 2024, the Galaxy S24 immediately stands out. It’s poised to be $200 / £200 / AU$300 more affordable than its counterpart, the Galaxy S24 Plus.

When it comes to design, past experiences with the series indicate that the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus will be nearly indistinguishable.
While the Ultra line typically charts its own unique course, the Plus has consistently been nothing more than an enlarged version of the non-Plus model.
Leaked press renders seem to affirm this notion, depicting the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus as mirror images.
This includes the available color palette of Black, Gray, Violet, and Yellow. Expect additional colors to join the lineup on Samsung’s website, with early indicators pointing towards options like orange, light blue, and light green.
The aforementioned renders suggest a resemblance to their immediate predecessors, albeit with flatter edges and slimmer bezels.
The design language won’t undergo a complete transformation, but a touch of sophistication is anticipated.
As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy S24 Plus will boast a larger size compared to the Galaxy S24, translating to a significantly larger display.

Rumors suggest an increase in the Galaxy S24 screen size to around 6.2 inches (precisely 6.17 inches), while the Galaxy S24 Plus might feature a bumped-up 6.65-inch screen.
The potential divergence between the two models might extend to display sharpness. There are speculations that the larger Galaxy S24 Plus could adopt a WQHD+ display, aligning it more closely with the Galaxy S24 Ultra than the Galaxy S24 (with its FHD+ resolution).
Could the Plus model also inherit the Ultra’s versatile LTPO technology, allowing the refresh rate to scale from 120Hz to 1Hz? Some reports suggest this capability may extend to both non-Ultra models, hinting at potential battery-saving enhancements.
An additional mystery surrounds whether the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus will feature the new, more efficient M13 OLED panel reportedly on its way to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Reports even hint at a significant brightness boost to 2,500 nits for both these phones—an exciting prospect to behold.

Don’t anticipate groundbreaking leaps in camera technology for either of these devices. The grapevine of Samsung Galaxy S24 camera speculations suggests a continuation of the same triple-camera setup found in the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus for both the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus—comprising a 50MP main lens, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP 3x telephoto lens.
The only noticeable divergence in the 2024 lineup might be the introduction of a new 12MP selfie camera, a step up from the 10MP variant in the 2023 models.
However, this doesn’t imply that the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus won’t outshine their predecessors in photography. Samsung seems poised to make significant strides in AI this year, potentially bringing Pixel-esque image processing wizardry to its latest phones.
Rumors have surfaced regarding Samsung’s trademark applications for terms like Magic Pixel, Flex Magic, and Flex Magic Pixel, hinting at a suite of AI-assisted camera features.
Among these terms, one speculated feature could empower users to manipulate or remove people and objects from photos.
There are also murmurs about the ability to expand the background of images, while Samsung’s enhanced AI capabilities are expected to diminish graininess and elevate image stabilization.

Samsung Galaxy S24 VS Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus: Battery Life

There’s a possibility that both these devices will witness an uptick in battery capacity. Speculations suggest the Galaxy S24 might boast a 4,000mAh battery (up from 3,900mAh), while the Galaxy S24 Plus could see an increase to a 4,900mAh cell (up from 4,700mAh).
While these aren’t monumental jumps in capacity, every incremental increase matters, especially when accommodating larger, more vibrant displays and sophisticated AI features.
However, don’t anticipate alterations to the charging capabilities of these two phones. Certification details indicate the Galaxy S24 sticking with a maximum wired charging of 25W, and the Galaxy S24 Plus continuing to support up to 45W. It’s also worth noting that neither device is expected to include a charger in the box.
In the realm of Samsung’s S and S Plus models, making a choice has traditionally been quite straightforward.
They present nearly identical features and designs, with the Plus variant boasting a larger display and enhanced battery life. On the flip side, the regular S model offers more portability and comes with a more budget-friendly price tag.
This familiar distinction appears likely to persist with the upcoming Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus. However, intriguing hints suggest that Samsung might be inclined to introduce more differentiation this time around.
While it’s not confirmed, the Plus model could potentially distance itself from its counterpart by featuring a crisper display and perhaps even a superior processor.
